The role of the Irish language in our artistic and creative lives. // An Ghaeilge inár saolta ealaíonta agus cruthaitheacha - Cáit Ní Riain and Diarmuid Lyng
Cáit Ní Riain and Diarmuid Lyng will explore through chat, spoken word and music, the role that Irish language has played in moulding, informing, supporting and rewilding their various art forms, their creative cauldrons, and indeed, their lives. Both walking the pilgrim path back the language as opposed to having grown up with it as their first language, their journey back to Gaeilge is deep, interesting and offers an insight on the many gifts, challenges, and inspiration, and rootedness that awaits those who wish to travel the road home to the mother tongue of this land.
Cáit Ní Riain is a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Upperchurch in Co.Tipperary. She is deeply rooted in Irish traditional music and song, and has been influenced by the great depth and beauty of the songs and tunes of Ireland, and of folk musics the world over; the music, songs, and rhythms that have grown from the ground up, from the human’s relationship with land. She is particularly passionate about the traditional songs of Ireland, the keening tradition, the deep embodiment of voice, and voice as a potent healing and spiritual tool. She composes her own songs which are rooted in themes of wildness, love, and the need to decolonize our minds, hearts, and bodies. She plays piano and sings in ‘The Weaving’, alongside accordionist and singer, Méabh Begley and Leeds’ fiddler, Owen Spafford. The Weaving are an exciting new group celebrating the deep taproots of both Irish and English traditional music and song. She holds a BA/MUS from University College Cork and an MA from University College Dublin in Irish Folklore and Ethnology

Diarmuid Lyng has dedicated his life to preservation and celebration of the Irish Culture.Through his work with the language, with hurling and with the Irish terrain, he is uncovering in people a previously hidden energy source that benefits the individual, the society and the nature.A qualified teacher by trade, he has since married his experience at elite level performance with his natural talents in education to curate experiences where participants of all walks, talks and experiences can improve their situation at an emotional, physical, financial and spiritual level. He is partner to Performance Poet Siobhán de Paor and father to Uisne, Ériú, Tuireann and his trusted hound, Dubh Dubh. He is interested in collaborating; with nature, with projects that serve people and with the wild soul in all of us that has a bigger plan for us.
HUMAN:NATURE - Natural Symphony
Step into a world where music, love, and nature intertwine through frequency. In this powerful and immersive talk, Joey shares the origin of Natural Symphony — a visionary project that turns the unseen energies of the natural world into sound.
Tracing a journey from the depths of the Amazon to cutting-edge biofeedback technology, this talk uncovers the deep, often overlooked connections between humans and nature. Through story, sound, and science, Joey invites us to listen differently — to hear the silent symphony that surrounds us, and to remember that we are not separate from nature, but part of its living, breathing rhythms.

Joey Dean, known professionally as Natural Symphony, is a British sound and light artist who creates immersive electronic music experiences by harnessing the bio-rhythms of plants and trees. His journey began in 2019 during a transformative sound and light healing session in Bali, where he envisioned using nature to craft music and foster a deeper connection between humanity and the natural world. Since then, Dean has developed custom instruments to translate plant bio-data into melodies, basslines, and visual effects, leading to performances at major festivals like Glastonbury and collaborations with environmental organizations such as Yakum in the Amazon. Through his work, Natural Symphony not only pushes the boundaries of art and technology but also contributes to reforestation efforts, with proceeds from his music and merchandise supporting tree planting initiatives.
